Personal Growth

Learn the story your Enneagram type has been telling, and how to choose a more true one.

Storytelling the Self is my signature blend of storytelling, narrative therapy principles, and the Enneagram. It’s for anyone who feels caught in a loop: old roles you’ve outgrown, default reactions you can’t explain, and emotional storylines that hijack the plot. In this work, you’ll learn to spot the “story” you’re unconsciously living, trace the arc of your type-based patterns, and name the inciting incidents that shaped your identity. Together, we break down the cast of characters inside you, uncover the deeper desire beneath your surface goals, and identify the conflict that keeps you stuck. This is a creative and grounding process of self-observation that helps you understand you…and what your next chapter could be. If you’re ready to shift from surviving your story to redefining it, this is the work.

  • Storytelling the Self: A New Year Community Gathering with Dash Donato & Evangeline Welch

During the one-hour gathering on Zoom with Dash Donato and Evangeline Welch, you’ll step into a completely new way of understanding your life: as a story with a beginning, a pattern, and the possibility of a rewrite. Dash (an award-winning filmmaker, writing coach, and certified teacher with The Narrative Enneagram) will guide you through a fresh, accessible approach to self-understanding using the same tools she uses to build compelling characters on screen.

In this session, we’ll explore the “story beneath the story”: the emotional moment that knocks you off balance (the Inciting Incident) and the quick, protective reaction that follows (the Substitute Desire). Through a blend of teaching, humor, and a memorable movie example, you’ll learn how these two moments quietly shape the way you move through the world, whether you realize it or not.

You’ll be invited to try a couple of simple writing prompts to uncover your own emotional “plot points,” and then join a supportive breakout conversation to reflect on the patterns that surfaced. No writing experience is required. No type expertise is needed. Just curiosity, compassion, and a willingness to look at your story from a slightly new angle.

By the end of the hour, you’ll walk away with a clearer sense of how your personal narrative gets set into motion, what tends to take over when you’re triggered, and how awareness opens the door to change. This gathering is a gentle, powerful preview of Dash’s 4-week series Storytelling the Self: an invitation to stop being swept along by the old script and start participating in the one you actually want to live.

  • Your Life as a Movie: A Four-Week Workshop (2/3, 2/10, 2/17, 2/24 @ 6pm CST)

If you’ve ever felt stuck in the same patterns, trapped in roles you didn’t choose, or overwhelmed by an inner storyline that seems to run your life… this series is for you.

Across four powerful sessions, we’ll use filmmaking, narrative therapy principles, and the Enneagram to help you understand the “movie” you’ve been unconsciously acting in, and start authoring a new one. Think of this as a creative, compassionate deep dive into how your identity formed, why certain moments hit you harder than others, and how your type has been directing the plot all along.

    Over the month, you’ll:

    • Identify the inciting incidents that shaped your story.

    • Clarify the desire beneath the desire, the deeper longing driving your choices.

    • Map the “cast of characters” inside you: your Opponent, Fake Ally, True Ally, and more.

    • Notice your default patterns and how they hijack your narrative.

    • Practice observing yourself with gentleness rather than judgment.

    • Write a new logline: a clear, powerful statement about the story you’re ready to live next.

You don’t need filmmaking experience, writing experience, or even to know your Enneagram type. Just bring your curiosity, your lived experience, and the part of you that’s tired of repeating the same pattern(s).

If you’re ready to move out of the old story and into the one that actually fits who you’re becoming, this series is your invitation.

Writing with the Enneagram is my craft-forward blend of storytelling, character psychology, and the Enneagram’s deep inner architecture. It’s for fiction writers who want their characters to feel human—full of contradictions, longing, flaws, and fire—not just functional pieces of plot. In this work, you’ll learn to uncover the inner engine driving your characters: the worldview shaping their choices, the desire that propels the story, the fear that keeps them stuck, and the growth path that makes their arc inevitable. We’ll explore how conflict emerges naturally from type patterns, how relationships dramatize deeper themes, and how stories crack open when characters are written from the inside out. This is a grounded, intuitive process that helps you build characters who breathe on the page and gives you the tools to craft stories that feel emotionally true, structurally sound, and impossible to put down. If you’re ready to write characters who feel alive, this is the work.

“The Enneagram is an ancient system of human development that shows us the limiting stories that keep us stuck in unhelpful patterns, and invites us into more expansive stories.”
